Truckee & Lake Tahoe · Homes, additions & renovations

Bring your Truckee home project to Rick and JT Rhodes. Our father-and-son design-build business plans custom homes, ADUs, additions and renovations, with deck building and exterior work as part of our services. We start with your property, priorities and budget to define a practical scope and the design and approval work it requires.

01

Custom homes & ADUs

Discuss a new residence or accessory dwelling unit with a scope that starts at the property: intended use, access, utilities, layout and finish level. Feasibility and the required approvals are established before a construction commitment.

02

Additions & remodeling

Plan more space or update an existing home. We review how the work connects to the existing structure, what areas will be occupied during construction, and the sequence for demolition, framing and finishes.

03

Decks & exteriors ↗

Coordinate deck replacement, siding, porches, railings and stairs. Looking at the exterior as a whole helps define where adjoining work, weather protection and finish details need to be addressed together.

A clear starting point for a larger build.

If you already have plans, send them with the project address and your target budget. If you are at the idea stage, describe the space you want and how you plan to use it. We discuss the information needed to move from an idea to a defined construction scope.

We identify responsibility for architectural plans, engineering, utility coordination, permit submissions and fees in writing. An early concept or 3D rendering helps communicate the design; it does not replace the drawings and approvals needed to build.

For additions and ADUs, the existing home, proposed location, site access and utility connections all matter. We review these before narrowing the construction budget, rather than treating square footage as the only cost driver.

Work planned around your mountain home.

Tell us about winter access, driveway constraints, storage and delivery space, and when the home will be occupied. These practical details help us plan a job that fits the property and your use of it.

We discuss weather exposure, the interface between existing and new construction, and applicable structural and exterior-material requirements with the project team. Requirements depend on the address and proposed work; they are confirmed during planning.

For a second home, establish access arrangements and a preferred contact before work begins. Rick and JT discuss communication and construction milestones as part of setting up the project.

Permits, scope & scheduling.

Truckee publishes permit guidance for new construction, additions, remodels, windows and decks. The relevant building department and any other required reviews must be confirmed for your property and scope.

Design decisions, approvals, material availability, weather and the construction calendar affect the start date. We discuss those dependencies before committing to a schedule, and identify allowances or unresolved selections in the estimate.

Before we build

Your project questions.

What kinds of Truckee projects can I discuss with Rhodes?

Custom homes, ADUs, additions, interior and exterior renovations, deck building and replacement, siding, front porches and outdoor structures. Share the scope and location so we can discuss the right next step.

Can you work from my architect's plans?

Send the plans you have, along with the address, budget and intended schedule. We can review the proposed scope and discuss the remaining information and coordination needed to prepare a construction estimate.

Do you handle smaller exterior projects too?

Yes. A focused deck, siding or porch project can be discussed alongside larger home-building work. Availability depends on the scope, location and schedule.
