Rhodes Construction · Design / Build

Deck builder in Truckee & Tahoe.

Truckee · Tahoe City · Lake Tahoe

Rhodes Construction designs and builds new decks and replaces aging decks for homeowners in Truckee and the Lake Tahoe area. Work directly with Rick and JT on Trex composite, PVC or wood decking, coordinated railings and stairs, and the framing and foundation work your project needs. We bring the layout, material choices and structural scope into one plan before construction.

01

Replace an aging deck

Start with the entire structure: boards, joists, beams, posts, footings, connections, stairs and guards. We distinguish a possible resurfacing project from a full rebuild so the estimate reflects what can actually stay.

02

Trex, PVC & wood

Compare material samples, appearance, maintenance and budget with a Trex Pro contractor. Decking choice also affects fastening, spacing and framing details, which are planned around the selected manufacturer's requirements.

03

Elevated decks & stairs

Plan a usable outdoor space around the home's doors, views and slope. We review access for demolition and deliveries, stair routes, railing choices and the engineering needed for an elevated deck.

Plan for the mountain setting.

For a Truckee deck, the conversation starts with the property. We discuss snow exposure, roof runoff and snow shedding, elevation changes, access beneath the deck and the connection to the house. These conditions belong in the planning discussion before decking colors are finalized.

The applicable structural loads and foundation design need to be established for the actual site. Where engineering is required, the engineer's design informs the framing and connections. We define engineering, plans, permits and associated fees in the written scope.

Weather, material delivery, inspections and access affect sequencing. Tell us whether the property is occupied year-round or used as a second home so we can discuss access, updates and a practical construction schedule.

Check the permit path early.

A board replacement is not automatically permit-free. The Town of Truckee's published deck guidance includes requirements for replacing deck boards or guardrails as well as building new decks. We confirm the applicable process for your address and scope before construction.

A Tahoe mailing address does not necessarily place a property within the Town of Truckee. The responsible building department, and any applicable community design review, must be identified for the property.

What goes into your estimate?

Useful starting information includes approximate deck dimensions, height above grade, photos of the surface and safely accessible underside, stair count, railing length and the material you have in mind. Existing plans or inspection reports can help clarify the starting point.

We separate the visible finishes from demolition, access, framing, foundations and required approvals. That makes it easier to compare a board-and-railing replacement with a full rebuild and understand why two decks of the same size can have different budgets.

Before we build

Your project questions.

Do you serve Truckee and Tahoe City?

Yes. We take deck inquiries in Truckee, Tahoe City and the Lake Tahoe area, including South Lake Tahoe. Tell us the address and project scope so we can confirm site access and scheduling.

Can you put Trex over my existing deck framing?

Sometimes, if the framing and supports are suitable for the proposed work. Their condition, connections, layout and compatibility with the chosen decking must be reviewed. New boards alone do not resolve deteriorated supports or framing.

Do you offer free 3D renderings?

Yes. After discussing the property, budget and scope, we can use a 3D rendering to explore the layout, decking and railings. Renderings are design visualizations; required construction drawings and engineering are addressed separately.

Can you coordinate deck work with siding or a renovation?

Yes. Rhodes Construction is a full-service general contractor. We can discuss siding, exterior repairs, a porch or a broader renovation alongside the deck so the construction scope and sequence work together.

Is Rhodes Construction based in Truckee?

We serve Truckee and Tahoe from our Danville-based business, with an office at 3223 Crow Canyon Rd in San Ramon. Contact Rick and JT to discuss availability for your mountain property.
